The Swansea Backpackers is a purpose built, architect designed lodge adjacent to the historic Swansea Bark Mill and Tavern. The development complements the existing buildings and sports modern, spacious living, kitchen and games areas. The large outside deck and courtyard, the focal point of which is a handsome old gum tree, were designed for privacy and to maximise sunlight. The extensive use of shadow clad gives the development a timeless but modern feel.

LIGHT COMMERCIAL PROJECT

In 2008 Kerry Vince Builders won the Light Commercial Project award at the HIA / CSR Housing Awards for the University of Tasmania Accommodation Hostel.

Constructed on the site of a demolished, dilapidated weatherboard cottage, this purpose-built 34 bed University accommodation was designed to remain in keeping with the original building and neighbouring houses.

The quaint single storey frontage belies the large modern double storey accommodation block behind it with carparking beneath.

The structure is constructed with shadow clad and block work. Perforated metal screens to all windows provide privacy while allowing ample natural light to all rooms.
